<jira-ruby>: Access Jira field's unique values available in the pull-down

Using the jira-ruby gem, I need to be able to query the drop-down menu for a custom field to see the acceptable selection values. For example:

enter image description here

I checked the field spec tests and didn't see an example. Some psuedo-code might be:

        options = {
          username:     User.current.id,
          password:     User.current.password,
          site:         @jira_url,
          context_path: '',
          auth_type:    :basic,
          use_ssl:      false
        }
        client = JIRA::Client.new(options)
        project = client.Project.find('SAMPLEPROJECT')
        array_of_acceptable_field_values = project.issues.first.attrs['fields']['SAMPLEFIELD'].values

thx!
